As a, member of the Boys Brigade in Caerphilly I was encouraged by an older officer and later a good friend to gain my bronze silver and gold awards I went to the Palace and met the Duke later I was lucky to be one of 5 from the UK to participate in the International Gold Award Project in Australia in 1979 a life changing experience. I met the Duke twice after that at a presentation in Cardiff and at the Queens Silver Jubilee in Caerphilly where he noted my gold badge and spoke to me (a great honour). In 2019 the 5 of us from IGAP 1979 managed to meet up in London and it was like old times. The Award makes people who remember how to live life to the fullest and gives you friends you never forget a lasting legacy as has been said. I also married a Gold Award holder from Scotland 39 years ago another lasting legacy. The Award means so much it is hard to describe but lasting friendships are well to the fore
