DofE helped to encourage me to reach out for my true potential, not the one I was working with to stay in my comfort zone. It had a bigger effect on me though that was more than just DofE, it entered me into the world of Ten Tors. Through those two challenges, I found my true self, I showed to myself and other people who I really am and what I can really do. By having DofE it allowed me to accept challenges like Ten Tors which I would have never dreamed of joining. I found my endurance, determination and resilience. However, with the DofE specifically, I volunteered at the local library. I learned new skills like communication and I had a peek into real work experience. All of this award of course propelled me towards my future. Now I am more confident in myself, I find myself signing up for things like national work experience, which I would not have before because I was too self conscious. My expedition allowed me to develop skills even further, and also fail. These fails just made me develop even more. Rather than feeling down because I forgot my cutlery, I learned that mistakes happen, and it just shapes you and reminds you that when things don't go as planned or hoped, it does not mean disaster. HRH Prince Phillip Duke of Edinburgh supported, saved and developed many young lives, and for that he is marked as a hero across the globe.
