I completed my DofE Gold Award in 2010. The hardest part for me was taking part in the walking expedition. My group was a real mix of abilities and we unintentionally picked a route which included climbing Snowdon on day 2. I have never been more exhausted, mosquito bitten and smelly. I didn't think it possible to climb the mountain as well as complete five days of walking but we did it unbelievably! I learned a lot about how to work as a team, encourage people, motivate others and be leader during this experience. I was lucky enough to have Prince Philip at my awards ceremony and it was fantastic to hear him engage with us and joke around. I am proud to have achieved my DofE award - it is something I still reflect upon today as a fantastic growing experience.
