We were an all girl team, my teammates now are amongst some of the bravest, fiercest and kindest women I know.

On our Gold qualifying in the Dark Peak we did not make camp on the first two nights. We got horribly lost and were tired. But, we worked through it as a team, tessellating 5 people into a 3 man tent (yes it’s possible to be too warm whilst doing DofE in the U.K. in November) as that was all the room their was on the riverside path off the Kinder Plateau. We had to stop because it was too dark to continue the descent safely. We looked after each other, laughed and cried and finally, 4 days later- totally drenched- we made it to Lady Bower reservoir.

You could always hear us coming:

‘We don’t care what we’ve been told Socks are going to get to Gold! We don’t care if we go off-track, we’ve got sexy turtle-backs!’

No one ever said we wouldn’t make it, although there was the odd wager about how much equipment we could carry... obviously when your rations are a bar of galaxy we weren’t about to lose!

The lessons we learned and the laughter and memories we share will be treasured for the rest of our lives.
