I loved doing the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and completed the bronze, silver, and gold awards. I’ll never forget my final night of my gold expedition in the Brecon Beacons, me and my group were so tired, excited, proud, and sad to have finished after all these years. We had walked up pen-y-fan that day I think and we were exhausted but incredibly pleased with ourselves. That night we had a campfire, roasted marshmallows, a celebratory cake that had been squished in a bag for days, and a later night than would be recommended for a 6:00am morning! It was pouring with rain and the campsite was completely empty except for us and our tent and for good reason- the one toilet was completely mouldy and the shower was not usable, and the campsite was completely full of cow poo, but that just summed up the experience for us! With all the rain and the sunshine, there was a full rainbow that evening, and it was a wonderful end to our DofE journey.
