D of E was a remarkable experience. The girls and I, in my group, all became very close afterwards. My main memory links to a frightful experience on my practice expedition. We were camping during a thunderstorm that lasted for hours. With levels of sleep next to nothing, we had to evacuate the campsite. My expedition leaders had to navigate their vehicles through flooded country lanes, in order to reach a safe place, a pub! Located at a pub, somewhere on the Long Mynd, we informed our parents that we were all safe and were coming home early. At least none of us flinch at the sound of thunder anymore!
