I was fortunate to meet HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh more than 40 years ago as a participant in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

I was in the Girls' Brigade, and a group of teenage girl's participated in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The Duke of Edinburgh visited Solihull in the West Midlands, and we were so excited to meet the Duke. We could not quite believe that we were actually meeting the Duke of Edinburgh in person, and were quite dumbstruck when he spoke to us. The Duke was a gracious, kind, approachable man, who was particularly interested in the projects that we were undertaking as part of our tasks for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

Rest in Peace HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, you touched the lives of many and will be sadly missed by all.
