David Roston Lewis

I completed the third series in Nov.1959 @ No 4 School T. T. RAF St. Athan on 27/8/59. The O/C DofE was Sq/Ldr. Dunster who provided outstanding encouragement & support.
For the Rescue & Public Service Section I completed the Royal Life Saving Society Award of Merit & Instructors Certificate which I applied for many years in the UK and abroad.
For the Expedition Section with 3 others , we completed a 60 Mile hike in the Black Mountains & Brecon Beacons starting at Pont Clydach, west of Brynamman, ending in Capel Ffin near Offas Dyke.
We carried a minimum of 35lbs plus a tent & explored 5 peaks over 2500 Feet.
The Expeditions sparked a love of mountains which motivated me to lead DofE expeditions and join the RAF St.Athan Mountain Rescue team covering South & Mid Wales.
All sections demanded effort & application which enriched my life and sparked a need to serve others.
The presentation @ the Palace was 18/5/60.
