I first came into contact with the Duke at the large D of E gathering in Belfast. I found him to be very funny totally passionate and a great speaker. He inspired me to carry on with my D of E post and I am still involved now at 68 years old. I later went with some of my Gold students to James Palace to see them collect their awards. In a large room full of people the Duke spotted me and came over and had a wonderful conversation about things we had spoken about in Belfast. This was many years after and I was staggered that not only did he recognise me but could also remember our conversations. The Duke is and was a remarkable man and I will never forget him. He will be a tough act to follow.
