What I love about the DofE award is that everyone has their own personal experience when completing it. Everyone learns their own individual lessons and accomplishes their own unique achievements. I think it's great that every young person can get this opportunity. I know for sure that my DofE will be one of the most important things I'll ever do. Not only do people respect the DofE award but its something I will never shy away from talking about as it has been one of my fondest memories. I joined a new DofE group when I moved to Sanday in 2019. It had been a couple of years since I did my bronze but it was thanks to Rosemary, the DofE coordinator on Sanday that I was able to get back on track and join them to get my silver completed. I remember our silver expedition well because we experienced unseasonably bad weather. What I enjoyed the most about our expedition was that every single time we stopped for our breaks and lunches, no matter how drenched and exhausted we got we never failed to make each other smile and laugh. It was each others unwavering positivity and determination that got us through every step of the way and made what could've easily been a terrible experience in to one of our best memories.
