Bertie Stirling

When I did my Duke of Edinburgh's Award very few people had heard of it, certainly not the education system in Northern Ireland. I had to read the manual, organise all my sections and explain to those who helped me just what was involved. I enjoyed it immensely and the skills and relationships I gained were many. I still continue to volunteer for the DofE Award and enjoy seeing more young people develop. I had the privilage of meeting His Royal Highness on four occasions and enjoyed his 'banter' and humour. The occasion I remember most was when he broke away from routine to come over to talk to me at Hillsborough and sent the security people into disarray. An amazing man with an amazing legacy.
