My silver expedition was really one of the kind, beginning with the fact that covid-19 had it pushed back from July to September. After the lockdown, I was quite excited to get out into the countryside and do my DofE! We met up at Picket post in the New Forest and soon set off on high spirits. It turned out that the day was going to test our limits to the most. The high winds, ferocious rain and at times fog quite frankly led us to getting lost. We were on the heath land where distinct landmarks were non existent, getting more soaked by the minute. We found our way only to get lost again, at times only following the compass. We managed to arrive back to the car park to go home (since we couldn't do camping due to covid). This didn't halter our motivation. The next day we knew what we were doing, we were determined to walk all the miles and complete our DofE. The other 2 days were wonderful, with perfect Autumn weather,a palette of warm tones all around us. Thankfully we didn't get lost at all and enjoyed every step along the way, singing, laughing, talking and even doing a little dance here and there when we arrived at a check point. Our friendship kept us together yet it also strengthened due to the hardships. Unforgettable memories were made and my skills of navigation, perseverance, cooking with a tranjer and team-work were all enhanced. I found the volunteering work of DofE was also enjoyable as I helped my local Beavers (Scouts) group. Here I really learned how to aid children and lead them in different activities which was at first a challenge (due to working with an age group I wasn't accustomed to) but I overcame that. Overall, I can thoroughly say that DofE was one of the greatest experiences for me and something I'm very proud of completing after all the thick and thins. I'm so very grateful to HRH Prince Phillip, for creating such an extraordinary experience that has enriched and inspired me with so very much. I hope to do my gold as soon as possible!!
