Expeditions in Wales in the freezing cold during winter! A wonderful opportunity to experience life and meet people. I did my award in the 1970's and was still being asked about it in 2004 during job interviews. I received my gold award at the Palace and it was more formal then, ladies had to wear hats. I was selected to meet Prince Philip because of our shared interest in horses. He spoke directly to me (I can't remember the question as I was so nervous!) and before I could answer someone behind me answered, prince Philip ignored them and carried on looking at me until I spoke, and when I did he just beamed. He was brilliant. That day was so memorable (and not just because of my mum's posh hat!) and it will stay with me for ever.
