We sailed our Gold DofE, and one of the funniest (but also scariest!) memory was of our 11 hour night sail from Salcombe to Guernsey in a lightning storm when we almost got run over by an oil tanker who had radioed us to let us know they would move and that we could remain on course but they never did! The wind then picked up to over 25 knots, and we kept trying to put a reef in whilst it was pitch black, without falling overboard!
My Gold DofE was one of my favourite memories ever, we watched the sunrise and sunset every day, sang songs as loud as we could in the middle of sea and watched dolphins swim alongside us, as well as visited new, beautiful harbours over the course of 10 days. We also visited Alderney, which had lots of interesting historical features, such as trenches, bunkers and an abandoned concentration camp, which we spent the whole day exploring. I loved the challenge, as well as the teamwork involved, and from the trip I have made friends for life, I would 100% do it all again in a heartbeat.
