I took part in the DofE scheme in Oxford from 1972 to 1975 achieving bronze, silver and gold. I was fortunate to be one of those who took part in Prince Philip's visit to Oxford in 1973 where we demonstrated playing our guitars. (see photo). For our gold expedition 3 of us walked the proposed Oxfordshire Way in 1974 producing a guide to the route which was used as the basis for the published Oxfordshire Way. When my daughter was 16 in 2005 I started volunteering as a Guide leader and Scout leader and have taken over 70 young people to Dartmoor for their gold expedition over the last 15 years and many including my 3 children have achieved their Gold awards. I am very pleased to be able to share the skills I developed back in the 1970's with the current generation of young people.
