The Duke of Edinburgh shaped me from being a shy girl who was unsure about some things in the world to a person who has gained confident at trying something new. I remember the volunteering I did, such as cutting back the branches of the trees and trimming the grass that surrounded the orchard. I was unsure about these tasks as they required sharp objects. But in the end, I overcame them; I did my best. Most of the journeys we made were either rain or sun. I did not mind the weather conditions, so long as I was spending time with my friends who were also part of the journey. It turns out that I am great at map-reading, a skill I never thought I would be able to do. Sometimes, I get some directions wrong, but I learn from those mistakes. The friendships I have made are still with me to this day. There are many things that have convinced me to keep going and I suppose the biggest one was when we were up a munro and, despite the height and the time it took, I made it to the top. Now, because I completed that challenge, I know that nothing can hold me back from anything.
