The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme has been and continues to be an extraordinary influence in my life. When I signed up to take part as a naive but enthusiastic 14 year old school girl I had no idea of the adventures it would take me on and the courage it would give me to take on challenges with confidence well into adulthood.
I wear my Gold Award with great pride, knowing that not only has it helped me but more importantly the tools and skills I learned along the way have helped me help others in life changing ways.
I will always remember the Founder of the Award, not only with respect but also great fondness for the feisty and humorous spirit which he always displayed at Award Presentations.
