The DofE experience has really had a huge impact in my life, and has really allowed me to experience new things, learn new skills and make so many memories.
I was offered the silver award when I was in school, I was very hesitant and nervous as I wasn’t sure that I would be able to do it, or that it would be something too much out my comfort zone. But I had such an amazing group and leader that made me realise I was able to achieve anything If I put my mind to it. This gave me a huge confidence boost and allowed me to put myself out there to try new things.
Once I completed my silver award, it inspired me to carry on to complete my Gold award.
It has been amazing experience so far and have been able to learn so much, from learning how to operate a narrowboat travelling through the grand union canal, to completing my expedition in the Lake District last summer. Where I met such an amazing group of people that made the trip unforgettable. I also had very supportive and inspiring leaders that really allowed us to make the most out of our expedition, and pushing us to do our best. All of which has helped me to become more confident, and to step out of my comfort zone more to allow me to experience and learn so many different things. Which has made me very grateful for this award.
I look forward to finalising the last sections of my gold award. As this will be one of my biggest achievements so far. I really do recommend people take on this award, as it is such an incredible experience and really does help to build so many different skills, and make many memories along the way!!
