In 1974, whilst I was living in the Neath community care home, I took part in the bronze scheme. I trained for the bronze life-saving medal and gained the bronze medal (community care).next I organised all equipment, food and route for a 30 mile trek following the source of the ystradfellter River, camping overnight. The next day, under my lead, we continued the remaining 15 miles down river to Glyn Neath.
Later I organized an expedition, following the pyg path around and over Snowden, camping out for 2 days, recording different species of plants growing around the lake and rivers/tributies.
We were all told by our instructor that we had all attained more than the minimum, to recieve the bronze medal of the DofE award. Unfortunately for me a week later, I had to leave the care home and never got the chance to attend the medal ceremony.
I was never informed by the care home. I felt bitter at this 'Great loss 'of recognition, whilst my team members had a wonderful and proud day, even their photographs in the local newspaper. I've lived with this for the rest of my life.
Is there any way, that the scheme, has kept records, showing that I did attain my bronze award.
My children and grandchildren would be very proud of my "BOASTING" all these years.
