Through every aspect of attaining the Bronze, Silver and Gold award I had the most amazing experiences. They taught me so much about myself. Working hard, resilience and gratitude for what I had and an unending desire to be the best I can be. There were practical life lessons during my service with the police and caring for children which I continued to pursue as my career path in adult life.
On achieving the Gold Award I had an awesome day in London (I’d never been to London) and was totally awe struck when the Duke actually spoke to me asking “Where have you travelled from today?” When I replied Manchester he said “Really you’ve come all this way just for the day?” This was a time when the public were unable to go inside Buckingham Palace my mum came in with me and my poor dad stayed outside at the railings in the rain. They were so proud.
