John Simpson

As an ex-teacher, I have met or followed many young people who took part in the scheme. In all cases it expanded their vision of life in general and their capabilities and self- confidence. My daughter, who is deaf, was helped to plan a job teaching foreign footballers English. I have met a number of people acting as advisers or mentors, all of them giving their time in a good cause.
Among the many charities promoted by the Duke of Edinburgh I think the award scheme ranks highly, as it has helped and encouraged millions of young people all over the world.
I have given a donation in memory of a remarkable man, whose visionary life has changed the monarchy and indeed the lives of millions of people. I have met him on four occasions and he was always interested witty and charming. May he rest in peace.
