Bethany Smith

I remember when I saw the opportunity to participate in the DofE, and grabbing it. It benefitted me in so many ways. At the time I didn't realise how it could have such an impact on my life. Unfortunately, due to coronavirus restrictions I haven't been able to complete the expedition, however I have been able to complete my volunteering, skills and physical attributes. I've had so much fun fulfilling my skills and physical sections, however it was my volunteering that allowed me to become more confident in myself. I volunteered in a library, and normally I was quite shy talking to anyone that wasn't my friends or family, not even people my own age. So volunteering at the library was completely out of my comfort zone, however, this allowed me to overcome my social fears. Ever since I completed my volunteering I've felt more confident around people, and this really boosted my confidence growth. It also gave me a sense of purpose and fulfilment. So thank you to HRH for creating this incredible award, and thank you for helping me to find myself as a person. It's amazing how much someone can impact your life without even knowing you. This day sadly marks the funeral of HRH, however he will still live on through this incredible award.
Thank you.
