I did not know of the Duke of Edinburgh Award until it was spoken of at his passing, but I am very thankful for The Duke of Edinburgh’s legacy and influence which has spread all over the world through his Award and other organizations, and of course, in his Royal role. I experienced and benefited from his influence, and that of Kurt Hahn, through the International Baccalaureate programme. When I discovered the IB, it reignited my teaching and I believe provides the best model for teaching and learning. I am so happy to know that so many more young people get to benefit from the same principles I find so valuable in the IB, in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award program. I am so thankful for The Duke of Edinburgh, for his wisdom and insight to have championed these values of skill development, learning by experience in action, and more.
