I was fortunate enough to undertake the DoE award at secondary school. It was an amazing experience developing not only friendships, but confidence, problem solving, skills and opportunities. I completed bronze and silver in the UK but for my Gold I and my group undertook a lot of fund raising to save the money to go to the French Alps.
We went for 2 weeks and had a third week in the Ardeche. I developed lots of skills, created some great memories and use problem solving every day with confidence because of this experience.
I was excited to meet Prince Phillip when I recieved my Gold award and hold this whole experience with great fondness.
During my experience as part of my service I looked at the police and fire service as well as supporting a local charity. As part of fundraising we held a fashion show and arranged a meal and entertainment and, of course, a car wash.
I learned about being part of a team developed my leadership skills and saw some beautiful and amazing places.
The teachers who supported this were amazing and inspiring, so big thanks to those from Sneyd School.
If you have opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award, grab it with both hands - you won't regret it!
