In the early part of my teaching career i spent many a weekend in the black mountains or the peak district with groups of fantastic young people. Many an hour sat on the top of a hill somewhere waiting for the groups of young people to find their way past the checkpoint. Spending time isolated in beautiful landscapes, isolated and quiet, sometimes in blazing sun, others in pouring rain and howling winds. But the elation and joy of the young people on seeing me and knowing they were heading the right way, back to camp after a hard day walking. Sharing in stories of their day, the lost boot in the mud, the snacks, the feeling of being lost and then finding the right path. I watched with joy so many as they demonstrated the key skills the scheme drew out of them. So many happy moments and memories. A key part of my life and the person I am
