I am blessed to have had the opportunity to attain my Bronze; Silver & Gold D. of E. Award from 1969 until its completion in 1973 through The Girls Brigade. Tasks of volunteering at our local hospital & Far West Children’s Health Scheme; learning life skills of ‘Acquiring your Home’; Animal Care; St. John’s First Aid certificate; Music just to name a few, also had weeks/months of training by experienced & professional teachers . The most gruelling task was a 50 mile bike ride carrying everything needed for an overnight camp out & return! There are too many tasks to list but I am grateful for each one which gave me confidence & a deep appreciation of community, nature & the world around us. The cherry on top was being presented the Gold Award by The Duke himself on 22nd October 1973.? He will be dearly missed. Thank you Prince Edward for continuing this great work??
