I started my DofE journey at Bishops Vaughan Catholic Secondary School. I completed my Bronze, Silver and most of my Gold before emigrating to Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia in 1980. When I arrived here in Warrnambool I found a school that also facilitated the DofE scheme and I completed my Gold at what is now known as Brauer Secondary School, Warrnambool. In March 1981 the Duke of Edinburgh came to Melbourne and as part of his tour he presented Gold DofE recipients their Gold Awards. I was one of the lucky ones to be able to attend this gathering of like minded young adults and receive their award from the Duke himself with my parents in attendance. I was so thankful that I could complete the whole Award system between two counties, and I learnt so much and have carried what I learnt throughout my adult life.
