I supported my daughter to do her Bronze DofE Award because I knew from my own experience as a child / young person and subsequently an adult that undertaking this award would assist her in growth and development of skills she would need in adulthood. I knew I couldn’t give her all that, but needed to reach out for other opportunities for her to reach her potential. She completed her Bronze Award but went onto doing a World Challenge and visiting India, where she did similar requirements. She was 16 when she went to India and she was away for 4 weeks which at the time was hard but, the DofE Award allowed her and me confidence in her ability and together, they helped her become a strong woman who has since become a primary school teacher and helps other children to reach for the stars. I would like to thank Milnes High School and Lhanbryde Primary School and the Duke of Edinburgh for the opportunities given to her.
Thank you Prince Philip for creating such a legacy and opportunities for young people to grow on confidence and character.
May you rest in peace and know that you will be missed.
With respect,
A mother of a DofE Bronze Award holder. Xx
