I originally started my Bronze award as something good for my CV but on completion of Bronze, I found myself setting out for Silver. It wasn't without its challenges (at any level) and found myself climbing up a hill with my team, the rain pouring down, telling myself with every step "not gold, not gold, not gold, not gold"... of course a year later I was out on my Gold expeditions and they were the most enjoyable experience! We gathered up all of these skills, tricks and experiences over the previous levels, meaning we could just go out and have some of the best adventures that I can still remember as clear as day and recount to new friends all these years on.

The DofE award taught me some of the most important skills in life, like perseverance and working hard to achieve my goals but also brought me out of my shell socially as I made friends in my team mates and took part in activities that were originally outside of my comfort zone.

It is clear that the Duke of Edinburgh had many achievements over his lifetime but the DofE Award will have made an impact on millions of young people that will carry its teachings for the rest of their lives, making it an absolute credit to his character.
