In the Summer of 1974 while at Merchant Taylors’ School I did my DoE Silver. For the expedition I and fellow DoE participant Paul Sinclair followed the Chiltern Way for three days ending up at Ivinghoe Beacon. The walk was great, the tents were heavy, and the food was much appreciated. My father’s WWII hat that sheltered him in the jungles of Burma proved its worth on the hills of Buckinghamshire.
