A special Mum and Daughter photo. This photo of us both wearing gold badges was taken enjoying refreshments after Katie received her Award in July 2007 at Windsor Castle. I went to Buckingham Palace to receive my Gold Award personally from HRH The Duke of Edinburgh on 19th May 1970 having been given the opportunity to start the bronze in 1966 with the Rangers (Senior Guides). I have been fortunate enough to run the Award in two schools from 1972 until I retired in 2011 and have been part of the achievements of many bronze, silver and gold participants. The Award Scheme became a huge part of our family life and that of so many friends and colleagues who supported us and the young people. I will always be truly thankful for the help in all 4 sections of the Award from our friends, colleagues and many professional services. The Duke of Edinburgh started something that worked and that has grown and adapted with time allowing many proud moments like ours. Thank you Prince Philip.
