Graham Grubb

I did my bronze award in I think 1978, don't remember much about it but I know I loved doing it and felt chuffed with myself for passing.

Bits I do remember were doing the fire service, the PE side of things and the walk we did across the New Forest, what I got out of it was beleaf in myself and my abilities, I proved to myself that if I put my mind to a challenge I can achieve it but if I can't I know I've done my best, the bit I enjoyed the most was being part of a team, the map reading and the hike across the forest.

Looking back it is something I am proud to have done and would love to do it again.

The one thing that disappoints me is once you get past the age of 17-18 employers don't seem to care or ask if you have ever done it.

I would encourage anyone who has the opportunity or is thinking about it to just get on and do it, you will enjoy it..
