I worked for the British Embassy in Oslo in May 2001 when the Queen and HRH Prince Phillip visited Norway for a state visit. I worked at the time as a management assistant looking after the diplomatic properties. I had the pleasure of meeting the Queen and HRH at the Residence before they left Norway. I had just got married to my Norwegian partner and had returned from our honeymoon just in time to help with the visit and meet the royals. I do remember that HRH greeted the Ambassadors driver, Jim who had just had a operation and had a bandage on his head - Prince Phillip made a joke of why his head was all bandaged up. The driver Jim took this all in good faith, unfortunately, it was a tumour and he died later but I am sure Jim appreciated the attention and wit at the time. We were all very proud to meet the Royals - I have a photo of meeting the queen but Prince Phillip was not in the photo unfortunately. My sincere condolences to the Queen and her family.
