I recall vividly the expedition for my Gold Award, which was delayed by a year due to foot and mouth disease in 2001. In 2002 me a group of girls climbed Mount Snowdon and the vicinity over 4 days. I distinctly remember being on really good terms with the Assessors, and wanting to make sure I looked glam whilst covered in mud and battling the elements! I'd packed in my rucksack my rechargeable hair straighteners, and asked them nicely if they wouldn't mind charging them in the cigarette lighter of their car during the day. For each of the 3 nights one of the Assessors would bring me my straighteners. I was on a mountain, not smelly my best, straightening my hair so at least I'd look good for daily 8 hour trek ahead. That memory will stay with me forever!
