I was lucky enough to take part in the DofE Award Scheme through school back in the 70s as a teenager. I completed the Bronze Award, would have loved to achieve the silver award at most but unfortunately exams got in the way and I didn't pursue it further. It was such a wonderful experience - it gave me confidence to believe in myself and inspired my love of the great outdoors, walking, love of maps and map reading which I continued to love and do so ever since.
It was a brilliant inspiring idea brought to fruition by a brilliant mind and character and our "rock" for Great Britain.
I have now retrieved my award winning badge from the depths of my jewellery box and will wear it with pride for sometime to come!
