Oliver Arnold
Im in Air cadets. On my cadet Squadron we have always been very active with the DofE awards. Been on a cadet sqn, I have made the closest pals I could have ever made, with the help of DofE expeditions I became closer to my mates than I could ever have done otherwise.
I have to honestly say that one of the most hilarious times in my life took place in a tent on DofE.
As well as this, I took on the role within our team of preparing the main chunk of our presentation about our expeditions to the other cadets.
I took the opportunity to do something fun and entertaining... so, I recorded the expeditions, not every single part, but a good few hours worth of footage in total per expedition.
This created the single most nostalgic thing ever. When ever I look back on it, I feel the excitement, involvement and freedom of the expeditions. This really is invaluable to me, and I could never have thanked my younger self any more for cherishing these memories in the way I did.
As I said earlier, these recordings were used to present to the other cadets on Squadron, I did this by editing the footage in a short film, full of the raw clips and highlights from all the footage. Me and my team used this as part of our presentation, because we decided our presentations aim will be to inspire and motivate other cadets to get involved in DofE.
It worked and we ended up with a large group of young cadets becoming involved. My promise to them was that it will be one of the most enjoyable things they will ever get involved in. Even though the pandemic put everything to a standstill, I still hold that promise and I am still fully confident in it.
To anyone thinking of doing it... do it
