Will never forget my Open Gold cycling expedition up near Hexham & Haltwhistle - the first time ending up in Newcastle casualty after just 4 hours and then going back and getting it done the following year. Also being a Gold Award holder I was privileged to be selected to represent the Eastern Region of the UK on the IGAT'90 in New Zealand. Many great opportunities, memories and character forming experiences which I would never have had be it not for HRH Duke of Edinburgh and his Award Scheme.
My wife is also a Gold Award holder. Our eldest son achieved his Silver Award, our next got his bronze - no mean feat considering he is Aspergers and also in a wheel chair - and our daughter is currently working towards her Gold.
