I completed by Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award in 1980 through St Bees Ranger Guides with an expedition in the Lake District. I still have our collective diary of the trip - we clearly felt the expedition was quite arduous and took ourselves way too seriously and I cringe a bit when I read it now! I went on the play in the first ever Great Britain women’s rugby team and I think the DofE expedition helped give me a benchmark from which to take on other challenges.
