Kathryn Leach (nee Barson)

The school I attended had a dedicated teacher who encouraged us all to join. We enjoyed every minute of the different tasks. One in particular where we had to clear a huge garden for the National Trust. I will never forget the smell of roasting apples on the bonfire. It was such hard work and I had blisters on my hands. I also enjoyed helping in the kitchen, catering for around 40 people was amazing. We stayed in the old house which was quite dilapidated and we were not allowed to go onto the third floor up. A great adventure for all involved, very satisfying too. Some of us are still in touch after all these years. Thank you to Prince Philip for making it possible. The trip to Buckingham Palace to receive the award I will never forget.
