My Bronze DoE was a complete disaster. We navigated ourselves the wrong way, adding an extra 10 kilometres to our journey and gained some complimentary blisters. When we got to the campsite, we found out that our tent inners didn’t match the outers so I had to tie them together with shoe laces. However, we didn’t have enough so half of the inner just sagged down on our faces. It started pouring at 8pm and all the tents flooded, completely soaking all our gear. I got a total of 3 hours sleep before having to walk the final 10 kilometres to the finish, freezing and sopping wet. It was incredible. I felt so beat down by nature but proud when I found a solution to our problems. Looking back, it was an incredible experience and taught me about resilience, perseverance and teamwork. If I had the chance to do it again I would. Although our expedition was a complete disaster, the people were incredible and I look back on that experience and can laugh at what we went though. I think I had the worst of the worst in terms of an expedition but I am still so glad that I was able to experience it.
