Lorraine Westwood (nee Dobbs)
I completed my bronze award over 40 years ago. It gave me my first experience of leadership and independent decision making, it was my first chance to really see what I was made of.
I remember whilst on our outdoor expedition my group entered a field with a bull in. The cows began to charge towards us. The others began to scream and flail their arms. This was my first ‘crisis management’ situation. I stayed calm, gave them clear and firm instructions and got them all safely out of the field.
That planted the seed of confidence that I was a good leader - I have spent the majority of my career in senior leadership roles.
Thank you DoEA and sincere thanks to Prince Philip for its creation.
