I always feel the volunteering aspect was not something I had ever done or would have done. As a teenager who lacked empathy and had had no experience with disability, volunteering with a group of people who had downs syndrome was such a valuable life experience. I am eternally grateful for the opportunities that DofE award afforded me. This is why I'm so keen thaf my children get involved in the award scheme.
