My favourite part of the DofE scheme was the expeditions. I loved learning to map read and planning routes (taking note of the contours and trying to avoid any hard climbs !). This has led to a lifetime love of walking and I’m now a member of the ramblers organisation. And I still love pouring over maps.
At the awards ceremony at Buckingham Palace Prince Philip spoke to me and asked me what my enduring memory of the award experience was. He laughed when I answered “blisters”.
