The most memorable of all my expeditions was my Silver. I, along with 30 others, were fortunate to travel to Normandy with the Royal Air Force Air Cadets in order to complete our expeditions. Walking the same route that the soldiers would’ve walked on D-Day made this expedition just so special. Viewing the historical features that still remain from the war and hearing the stories from those who served was a great honour and was far beyond something I’d ever imagined. Going on to complete my gold award was the cherry on top. At the time, I was going through a lot in my private life and having something to focus on that gave me a sense of achievement every step of the way truly got me through that time. The polar opposite weather on our practice and actual gold expedition made it all the more interesting. On our practice we all got such bad sunburn yet, just a month or so later on our actual expedition, the good old British weather came through and we got absolutely drenched. Of course, it’s the small things that make this award so special and I am so thankful to have completed mine as it has made me the independent and confident individual I am today.
