Matthew Kiveal-Duffy

I worked through my DofE whilst I was a member of 70 Squadron Air Training Corps.

I can recall the expedition for my Gold award was from Hawes to Horton-in-Ribblesdale over four days. The second or third day had us tackling Whernside and Ingleborough in the same day.

As for the award day, I drove to St James’ Palace and back in the same day, just one week after passing my driving test. Prince Philip came in briefly to congratulate us and I remember expecting him to be much taller!? The awards were presented by John Fashanu and Judy Simpson (Gladiators was still big then!)

I still have my pin badge and the badge I wore on my ATC uniform.
