Emily Barry

I was in the lucky year that my school took part in the DofE award. It was responsible for so much of my growth during my formative years. The best memory I have was during our Silver camp, we had completed our first night and were back out into the wild when we had to decend the steepest mountain I had ever seen, I daren't think what anyone watching us would have thought, half of us coming down on our behinds while the rest trusted to luck and scampered down like mountain goats. Luckily no ambulances were required. Whoever thought teaching 2 dozen teenage girls camping skills was a good idea muct have been mad but it did the job, fortitude, strength of character and mind and determination have followed me since.
