The thing I remember and enjoyed the most about the DofE was the expeditions. Perhaps not something I would have tried if it wasn't for the award scheme. My gold award expedition was in the Lake District. I remember discovering the beautiful wilderness landscapes, climbing up rocky streams and camping next to lakes. Having had this experience it has given me the confidence and enthusiasm to do more long distance hill walking and I have since completed the South Downs Way. Like the expeditions, the DofE award has allowed me to explore new skills and hobbies, many of which I am still continuing today.
