I completed both my Bronze & Silver DofE awards, whilst a member of the Royal Air Force Air Training Corps.
I throughly enjoyed working my way through these awards and was extremely proud of myself and my team for completing them. It gave me a complete sense of achievement and self confidence. I wasnt very good at exams in school, i would go to pieces, which knocked my confidence alot, but would excel in assignments and practical work. I have so many amazing memories, but one that sticks out is, walking into a field and a bull chasing us, we have never run so fast in our lives, when we got over the fence, thats all we did was laugh. I dont know why though, it was so scary.
I unfortunately did not complete my Gold DofE, as some of my fellow cadets left the corps or lost interest. I really wished I had found another team to join before I came to old to complete it.
I have also passed on my knowledge and experience gained to younger Air Cadets and seeing the young adults faces when they have achieved their awards, is the best feeling ever.
I encourage anyone that as the opportunity to achieve these awards, to jump at the chance, because they will never regret it.
