The journey to completing my Gold DofE gave me new skills, experiences and friends. My Gold residential took me to Uganda where I became a part of a fantastic community teaching young children in the village vital skills. My expedition took a long time to complete, my original team dropped out meaning that instead of the walking expedition I had planned for I did a canoeing expedition. I had to learn how to canoe, and complete a second practice expedition with my new team before we set off for Scotland. The expedition was one of the toughest things I have ever done, but also the most rewarding. We paddled through torrential rain on the first day and spirits were very low by the time we finally set up camp for the night, but by morning the sun had broken through and we were treated to one of the most spectacular views across the Loch. The rest of the expedition was equally tough, but we supported each other, and through show tunes and I Spy we kept our spirits up until on the last day we were treated to glorious sunshine.

My experience with DofE really changed me. I am a very anxious person, but completing my Gold DofE showed me that I really can do anything I put my mind to.

Thank you Prince Philip for your tireless service, and for creating a scheme that makes such a difference to so many people.
