The DofE has become a great foundation for my life which has contributed to who I am today. The experiences of dedicating myself to developing new skills, pushing myself outside of my comfort zone to try something new and meet people that I would not have met if I hadn’t volunteered in the community. Wonderful, kind people, who I remember fondly, gave their time to share their knowledge and experience with me in order for me to succeed. It still astounds me that as a young adult I collaborated with others to thoroughly plan a hike across the Brecon Beacons where we got lost and found our way again with many memorable magic moments, gritted teeth and plenty of smiles along the way. During times of difficulty, I rely on these skills to be resilient and navigate a way through. When an opportunity presents itself, I am able to apply what I have learned to assert myself with confidence that I gained due to the achievement of this award. I cannot imagine my life without this experience and I encourage all young people to go for it. As an aunty and godmother, I hope all will have faith in themselves that they too can enhance their lives with the opportunities that participating in the DofE will present if they seek them. Thank you Prince Philip for your foresight and wisdom that we have all benefited from.
